Going all in means something different for everyone.
How do you decide what all in is for you?
Here are four ways you can begin to look at your commitments and uncover what it means to go all in.
Surround Yourself with High Achievers
To think big, you need to surround yourself with others who are striving to accomplish big things. This could be a mastermind group, a coach, mentors, or people from your community who inspire you and have accomplished massive goals.
As you interact with these people, begin taking note of how they work toward their goals, how they achieve success, and how they continue to think bigger. As you know, you become like the five people you spend the most time with, so be selective about who is in your circle.
Stop Fighting Back, Start Accepting Feedback
You have to give people permission to push you into massive reflection.
We all need a push sometimes. Call on the people you respect and trust to provide feedback, hold you accountable, and encourage you to think bigger.
For many, the natural instinct when receiving feedback is to push back or come up with excuses. Instead, use feedback and allow yourself to be put into a state of reflection. In this state, you’ll be able to start determining what it means to go all in.
Don’t Compare Yourself to your Competition
Don’t compare yourself to what your competition is doing.
In The Infinite Game by Simon Sinek, the author discusses the difference between going after your just cause and going after your competition. He shares an example of times he spoke at Apple and at Microsoft.
At Apple, everyone spoke about how to change the world by making the best products possible. At Microsoft, the focus was on how to beat Apple. In the long run, Apple is the company making the biggest difference, because they keep their focus on their just cause.
Take time to fine-tune your just cause, and return to it often.
Decide What All In Means for You
Once you have surrounded yourself with high achievers, entered into a state of massive reflection, and honed in on your just cause, decide what all in means for you.
Determine what goals you are going after and what you are going to do to get there.
Once you decide, you will begin to eliminate things from your life, whether it’s late nights out, drinking, playing video games, or watching every football game on the weekends. You’re going to let some things stay in the past because they don’t align with your just cause.
As things are eliminated and your focus becomes more fine-tuned on your goals, you’ll be able to determine what all in means for you.
And then all that’s left to do is get to work.
