Last week, Byron interviewed the team leader of the Houston-based “Move Me To Texas” real estate team, Katie Day. Katie revealed the biggest feeder markets to Texas, gave her honest opinion on the phrase “Don’t California my Texas”, and answered questions on whether or not the Houston real estate market is contingent on the oil business. Katie and Byron also discussed the pros and cons of being married to a business partner. Speaking about working with her husband, Katie said:
“We’re not together all the time, which makes it easier. We have differing opinions on things, and our first business coach helped us out a lot when we didn’t always see eye to eye. But, for the most part, again, we’re not working together all day long, and we’ve now determined specific rules. So I think it works. Time will tell, but we’ve been doing it for a while.”
Katie spoke about her strategy for personal branding that other agents could emulate, especially when making the transition to a real estate team:
“I just always have it on. So I think that that makes things a little bit easier. If you are associating my team name and logo with my face, I know I’m doing something right. When we started the team, and when I started in real estate, I wanted to find something that I could have a brand for on all platforms. I came across the concept of moving to Texas and bought the URL. Many people would “The Katie Day” team, but I didn’t want to do that. So I just figured I’d stay with the same branding I started with.”
Katie discussed starting in real estate part-time and had some advice for current part-time agents:
“I think the worst mistake I’ve made in real estate is thinking that I could do it part-time. I got into it, and I had a contract job. So I was doing some real estate on the weekends and evenings and things like that. But, you know, to fully immerse yourself and be dedicated, you have to be full-time. Otherwise, you’re working two full-time jobs.”
