Today, I am calling everyone to be a little bit selfish in their morning routines so that you have the energy and the ambition to be selfless with the rest of your day.
As we close out the third quarter, what needs to be done now is to identify and define our new goals for the fourth quarter. These big goals are about understanding where you want to be. As we discuss these big goals for these “B hags,” referring to the book, Good to Great, talking about the Big Hairy Audacious Goal, it’s really about envisioning exactly where we want to end up, but it can be overwhelming.
Separation Time
Now is the time to boil down or break down the small goals you have left for the fourth quarter. The Q4 is going to be your separation time. Those who execute and perform better in these next three months will end up where they envisioned for the following year. Because even though January is the start of the new year, October is where we decide to plan early or play catch up for the first quarter of 2022.
Separating Your Goals From Your Victories
So what are the little victories going to look like? Do you know what those little small steps are that add up to this big greater goal? Take the time this weekend or any other weekend early in the month to make sure you understand these little steps.
If you don’t know them already, make sure they’re locked in, in the next 48 hours. Your goal has got to include a process. Every day, those little victories complete the steps needed to achieve your goal by doing the hard work. Hitting the checkboxes and knowing precisely what you need to grind out each and every single day as we move through the fourth quarter. Or “the beginning of the new year,” as I like to put it.
What are those checkboxes? What are those small victories that we are going to start celebrating together?
The Hard Work
If you don’t know what that looks like right now, you have to focus on it and start doing it. When you understand what you’ve got to do, the hard work and the process will become second nature.
