How to Create a High Level of Excitement Every Day

We all know we should do as many videos as we can: live and pre-recorded, on all platforms.

Today, I want to focus on one part of videos:

The Hook.

The Mistake Most People Make

I keep seeing the same mistake over and over again: starting videos with no hook.

When you don’t get to the point quick enough, people watching quickly lose interest and scroll on. This leaves the video lacking in impact and the ability to be massively shared.

Every video should start with a great hook.

That means these phrases are now and forever forbid and never to be used again:

  • Hi there, Facebook/Instagram.
  • Hey guys, just thought I’d jump on here.
  • I just wanted to go live real quick….
  • Happy Friday!

Think about what YOU do when you hear those phrases when you’re going through your Instagram or Facebook feed. If you don’t know and love the person, your thumb is moving faster than it’s ever moved before to get to the next piece of content.

Create a Cliff Hanger

Instead, every single video needs a cliff-hanging hook.

Before you begin your video, think about how it will end. What piece of information are you sharing?

From there, work backward to create a cliff-hanger that will pique interest at the very beginning of your video. Cliff-hangers work because they increase curiosity levels and make people want to stay tuned to learn more.

Here’s an example:

  • I’m working with Mr. and Mrs. Jones and we’ve put in three over ask offers in the last three days in this neighborhood I’m standing in.

The audience – especially those looking to buy or sell in the neighborhood – will want to stay around and figure out what happened to those three offers. Was one accepted? Did they all go to higher bids? How much are homes in that neighborhood selling for?

Once you drop the hook, you can introduce yourself and your team or brokerage, and then get into the details of the story.

Why Video is More Important Now than Ever

We all know that video has been important for a while now.

Moving forward, it’s even more crucial to create video content.

Adam Mosseri, director of Instagram, recently shared that changes are coming to Instagram, the main one being IG will now prioritize video over photos.

“We are no longer a photo-sharing app.”

As one of the biggest social media platforms, real estate agents who want to create an online presence will need to adapt to the changes – and that means creating more videos.

The best way to make sure those videos are getting watched (and in turn, shared, commented on, and liked) is to hook people right away.

Follow these four tips to create more videos today:

  1. Create Your Hook
  2. Do your Intro
  3. Get to the point (keep it short)
  4. Create more Videos

Let’s go record.
