Stop Overthinking and Start Implementing Today
July 8, 2020

The second quarter of 2020 is officially in the rearview mirror.

There’s probably several of you applauding that right now, as it was possibly the most challenging quarter many of us have ever faced in business and life.

Usually around this time of the year, with 4th of July coming up, people are taking time off. They are resting, they’re celebrating the first half and enjoying a vacation.

This year has been quite different.

2020’s 3rd Quarter will look different for many of us

This year, many of us are going to choose to keep pushing in Q3, and continue to put in extra work all summer long. There are too many unknowns in the future to take our foot off the gas pedal.

And let’s just be frank, that may very well lead to exhaustion.

While we need to watch our own fatigue, we also need to tune in to the energy levels and emotional needs of the people around us.

Energy Exchange

As people start to wear down, we as leaders have to make sure that we are giving people positive energy. One mistake in our interactions can suck the energy out of people we’re communicating with.

So, when you’re talking to people on your team or in your family, and there’s obviously a disconnect, what’s your response back? Is it snappy? Is it judgmental? Or is it calm?

Lead with Kindness

When your natural response is one of reaction or frustration, take a second to hold back and think about the person you are speaking to. Think about the exhaustion they may be dealing with. From there, you can respond in a kind and meaningful way.

If we continue as we continue to grind and work and push all summer, if we continue to put massive amounts of pressure on those around us, things will eventually break. So even if you aren’t going on your typical summer vacation, determine how you can build in moments of rest and rejuvenation. Then, give share that energy with those around you.

This year, think about how you can be the kindest and most thoughtful person in every situation. Q3 quite possibly could be the most important quarter of 2020 for every single one of us. Make sure you’re out in front of rest by engaging others with supreme kindness.
