3 Ways to Improve Your Life

improve your life

Sometimes, we hear or read something that hits us differently than it has in the past.

I was recently sent an article, How to Improve Your Life in 8 Steps. While the article lists eight tips, the first three really resonated with me.

Here are three things you can implement to reach higher levels of joy and success in your life:

Establish a Vision

“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.”

Helen Keller

Are you actually visualizing what the next year looks like for you? Are you painting a picture of the next 5-10 years?

Knowing what you want by establishing a clear vision makes it easier to commit to your goals. When you are faced with a decision, you can ask yourself – does this align with your vision? If the answer is no, it’s easier to walk away because you know exactly what you are striving for.

Commit to Showing Up

“Vision without action is a dream. Action without vision is a nightmare.”

Japanese proverb

Showing up is half the battle. Let your vision serve as your compass while your actions propel you to become a better version of yourself.

Show up when other people are going to try to talk you out of it.

Show up when it’s easier to do something else.

And then you show up again and again.

Committing to showing up, and creating a discipline around it, allows you to work toward that vision you created.

Don’t Try to Do It Alone

This is a big one.

This is the one that for whatever reason, average people will push against time and time again.

No one succeeds in this world alone.

Even athletes who perform alone rely on a team of people to get them to peak performance. When Michael Phelps steps out of the pool, he’s talking to his coaches. To prepare for tournaments, Tiger Woods makes sure he has the best coach, health coach, and trainers he can find.

Find people to take this journey with you. You’re going to live a much more fulfilled life if you’re working with and helping others along the way. The only reason the human race is still here today is because of other humans, is because we need people around us – if the last year hasn’t taught you that it’s touching nothing at all.

Surround yourself with the people who will add to your journey, and help you reach the vision you show up for every day.

“To be excellent, we cannot simply think or feel excellent. We must act excellently.”
