The most crucial time of day for me is my morning routine. Starting with the 5 AM Call, I begin every day by making time for myself so that I can be selfless throughout the rest of the day.
Consistent, repeatable actions every morning contribute to my attitude, motivation, relationships, and success.
But like anything, it has evolved and shifted over time.
Here is a look at how the 5 AM Call, and my morning routine, began.
A Simple Question
When I first started real estate, I was determined to prove myself and amend mistakes. After leaving a stable, full-time job during rocky economic times, I knew that I was going to have to put in the hours to succeed.
That first year in the industry, I was waking up on fire.
I was jumping out of bed at 4:00 am after going to bed at midnight. I was running on pure adrenaline, eager to prove my critics wrong.
But 12-15 months in, that energy started to dwindle. Once I began to feel just a little bit comfortable, I began waking up at sporadic times.
One day it was 7:00 am, and I knew something had to change – and quickly – to get me back on track. I was passionate about my morning routine and knew that it was essential to reach all my professional and personal goals.
So I shared my struggle with a couple of colleges and asked them,
Can we hold each other accountable for waking up early?
An Early Phone Call
In the early days, the 5 AM Call was accountability at its most basic form.
Three or four of us jumped on a phone call and asked – “You up?”
Accountability does not have to be fancy or elaborate to work. It just has to happen. We just started by calling each morning so that we could get to what mattered most: our morning routines.
A Natural Progression
Each one of us on the call started getting questions: how do you wake up early every day? As each of us shared how this phone call worked to wake us up in the morning, we had colleagues and friends asking if they could jump on the call as well.
The number of people calling in rose to 10, then 20, then 30.
We realized we couldn’t continue this model with everyone talking at once. So, we leveled up to meet the demand.
A New Structure
Over time, the East Coast 5 AM Call morphed into what it is today: a five-minute motivational message to begin your day.
More than 1,600 people on the East Coast have joined the group and call in to hear from one of our moderators. We upload the daily message to the podcast and have a private Facebook group to engage with each other.
Watching the group grow has been incredible.
What’s better than the organic growth of the call is what happens during those morning messages.
The East Coast 5 AM Call is more than an accountability check-in. It’s a family.
There have been countless game-changing stories that have been shared.
New perspectives have changed lives.
New friendships have formed.
Unending support, and, when needed, real talk, is spread daily.
All because a few people were passionate about making every day the best it could possibly be. The small steps we took have continued to naturally expand and evolve, and I can’t wait to see where it goes next.
What’s possible if you take one step to follow your passion today?
